TD Bank Boston Mayor’s Cup Cycling Race
by Ian Maclellan
It was amazing to see Boston so focused on cycling this weekend. I was originally planning on just filming the women’s race for a short documentary project I’m working on, but the light was too nice and the architecture too abundant to leave without photographing the men’s pro race as well.
Team UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling won the men’s race with brothers Luke Keough winning and Jake Keough coming in 3rd. Shane Kline (Team SmartStop-Mountain Khakis) took second. Full results are up on CyclingNews.
It was wonderful to see Boston come together around bikes. I hope Boston Bikes continues to put on huge events like this.
There were a lot of photographers at the event so I did my best to stay away from everyone else. I had never photographed a bike race before so I had to get creative quickly. I shot with my Nikon 24 2.8, Sigma 35 1.4, and Nikon 70-200 4 and tried my best to run around the course and find unique angles and characters to amplify the racing excitement.
The color wasn’t consistent and I’m pretty sentimental about Boston so I decided to use black and white for this project to focus in on the riders and city architecture.
